Although we are currently enjoying mostly wonderful, summer weather, Stirling Rotarians are suggesting that you might take a little time to do some spring-cleaning. And so as you tidy up the garage, the basement, a spare room or even a storage shed, you might consider this relatively effortless task as an opportunity to help a worthy cause.

Stirling Rotarian, and Giant Yard Sale organizer, Donna Graff explains: “We’re offering our neighbours a chance to give something back to the community by donating some of their gently-used ‘treasures’ to our Giant Yard Sale fundraiser. So as you go through your stuff, we’re suggesting you sort items into three piles; things to keep, things for the dump and those items to be donated to our sale.”

The local service club will be hosting its 23rd annual Giant Yard Sale – a special two-day event to be held Friday August 18 and Saturday August 19 from 8:00 a.m. until noon. And it all happens on site at the Stirling railway station.

“As much as we appreciate donations from our caring community,” said Graff, “we cannot accept books, clothing, electronics, or upholstered furniture. We’re hoping to collect only those things you have no further use for but might fetch a dollar or two at our sale.”

The public is invited to drop off items for the sale at the railway station on Thursday, August 17 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

“We are also offering to come to your home to pick up any donations you might have,” added Graff, “Simply call Rotarian, Bill Vaughan, at (613) 395-4441 to make those arrangements. And if there’s no answer, Bill asks that you leave a message and he will get back to you as soon as possible.”

In view of the fact that Stirling Rotary’s Giant Yard Sale will be stocked with merchandise generously donated by members of the community, it seems only fitting that all proceeds will be used to fund local Rotary club projects. For more information, Graff suggests a visit to the Stirling Rotary website or their Facebook page.
